NYLPI advocates extensively to ensure accessibility and full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). NYLPI launched a broad-based statewide Access Campaign to focus on these issues. The campaign has fought for: full accessibility to voting sites and voting machines for people with disabilities, including model legislation to implement the Federal Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA); accessible taxicabs and ferries in New York City; accessibility in the New York City subway system; and medical treatment and medication for prisoners, among a host of other areas. In addition, NYLPI staff work with advocates across the state to strategize about common barriers to access and ADA issues.
