For nearly 40 years, NYLPI has been a leading civil rights advocate for marginalized New Yorkers. These communities define our work, and their struggles for justice demand innovative solutions. They face serious barriers arising out of race, poverty, immigration status, and disabilities. Their needs are often ignored – their rights violated, and their voices unheard.
Our advocates partner with these communities to solve seemingly intractable problems. Guided by community priorities, we strive to ensure meaningful health access, strengthen local non-profits, achieve equality of opportunity, self-determination, and independence for people with disabilities, and reduce environmental burdens in communities of poverty and of color. We use every tool available — litigation, community organizing, policy advocacy, pro bono service, and media — to build collective power to achieve justice and equality.

Cyrus_Vance_LogoThe Cyrus Vance Circle is a giving program named after NYLPI’s founding board chair Cyrus R. Vance. The Circle is comprised of donors whose generosity is crucial to our advocacy and strengthens our capacity to embrace new challenges while adapting to our communities’ changing needs.Members of the Circle donate $1,000 or more annually and receive regular updates on our work and invitations to special events throughout the year.
