City council opens hearings on bilingual prescription labels

On June 16, 2008, NYLPI staff attorney, Nisha Agarwal, testified at an oversight hearing held by the New York City Council's Health Committee hon the need for local legislation mandating interpretation and translation services in pharmacies.  NYLPI has been representing Make the Road New York, a community-based organization, on access to pharmacies for limited English proficient (LEP) individuals, and both groups have been working with Councilmember Eric Gioia and Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum to develop and introduce the local legislation.
