Post-Graduate Fellowship Opportunities
New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (“NYLPI”) is accepting applications from candidates for post-graduate legal fellowships. NYLPI is a not-for-profit civil rights law firm that advocates on behalf of low-income individuals and communities of color in the areas of environmental justice, access to healthcare, and disability rights. NYLPI’s attorneys, organizers and non-legal advocates work with community activists and stakeholders to develop strategies for progressive social change.
Groups such as Equal Justice Works; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP; and the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis LLP each provide one- or two-year fellowships to recent law graduates or clerks who are motivated to work at a public interest law office such as NYLPI, which will sponsor the prospective fellow. For fall 2009, NYLPI is particularly interested in sponsoring a fellow to work in our access to health care program. This program focuses on racial and ethnic justice in the health care system, and includes projects on hospital and clinic closures in communities of color; access to health care for non-English speaking and immigrant communities; and discrimination.
All public interest fellowship programs are very competitive, and applicants need time to develop project proposals and complete applications. NYLPI thus strongly encourages all interested students to apply as early as possible.
Please send applications by e-mail to fellowships@nylpi.org or by post to:
