How to Get Help

Our Pro Bono Clearinghouse works with organizations that address the needs of underserved communities and matches them with pro bono attorneys at private law firms to service the organizations’ legal needs. Your nonprofit or community based organization may be eligible for free legal assistance.

Clearinghouse attorneys provide free legal assistance in virtually every area of the law, including:
  • Incorporation & tax exempt status
  • Contract disputes
  • Lease negotiations
  • Corporate structure reviews
  • Landlord-tenant disputes
  • Employment manuals
  • Finding a general counsel
A complete list of recent cases is available in our quarterly newsletter Pro Bono Matters.

If you are interested in getting general information about the Clearinghouse, please call us at (212) 244-4664.

If you are seeking legal assistance to incorporate and/or obtain tax-exempt status for a new non-profit, please click here.

If you are seeking legal assistance of any type on behalf of an existing non-profit, please click here.

Within a few days of reviewing your request we will notify you about whether we will be able to provide assistance. If we are successful, it generally takes between two to four weeks to place your matter with a firm. We work to place time-sensitive legal matters on an expedited basis. Please note that not every matter that we attempt to place gets placed.
