NYLPI testifies before the New York City Board of Correction

Today, DJ Director Ruth Lowenkron testified before the New York City Board of Correction, speaking out against the renewal of variances for the Board of Correction’s Minimum Standards that negatively impacts the health and privacy of New Yorkers in prison. The three variances will lengthen the time period between psychiatrist visits for patients in prison on psychotropic medication; allow for IGRA tuberculosis screening and exempt those people admitted into prison who tested negative for tuberculosis six months prior to admission; and allow disclosure of medical diagnoses that are related to an injury sustained by prisoners. Unfortunately, the Board unanimously voted to allow the three variances to be renewed.
