ABA Student Lawyer Magazine: NYLPI’s Christopher Schuyler Reflects on Self-Advocacy, Stigma and Finding Community in Law School

Christopher Schuyler was featured in the ABA‘s Student Lawyer magazine article, “Law Students with Disabilities: Finding Your Community and Advocating for Yourself.”
Schuyler, a person who stutters, explains that his initial fear of showing weakness in the fast-paced world of law school made him work harder to excel, provided opportunities to self-advocate and allowed him to build community among other law students with disabilities.
“To get to where I am, I needed to identify and come to terms with my disability. That helped me get an insight into the larger world of disability issues, how broad those issues are, and how much work there is to do. One of the things I love about disability law is that there are so many opportunities to make new laws and to improve the laws that are on the books.” – Christopher Schuyler, NYLPI senior staff attorney, Disability Justice
