NYLPI Director of Disability Justice Ruth Lowenkron was featured in an article from amNY for testifying at an MTA Board hearing to address changes to the proposed Access-a-Ride on-demand paratransit pilot program – including a proposed fare increase. Lowenkron emphasized that changes to the on-demand program could lead to lawsuits against the MTA.
“This is a civil rights issue. It is not legal to treat the disability community differently. This is not a luxury service, as many have said, and it should cost no more. In fact, it should cost less.”
