NYLPI applauds the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, & Asian Legislative Caucus (BPHA Caucus) for including major disability justice, environmental justice and health justice bills in the 2024 People’s Budget, which reflects the combined efforts and voices of a broad spectrum of residents, community organizations, government officials, labor unions, and not-for-profit leaders who together are united in building an inclusive and thriving New York where the needs of marginalized communities are not just heard, but are acted upon with urgency and thoughtfulness.
NYLPI is pleased to see the following initiatives uplifted in the 2024 People’s Budget:
- Daniel’s Law, which ensures a community based, non-police, planned and monitored statewide response framework to better serve New Yorkers experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.
- Major components of New York Renews’ Climate and Jobs Justice package, which will kickstart a pollution-free, resilient climate, and an economically just future across New York State.
- Coverage 4 All, which will provide low- and moderate-income New Yorkers access to life-saving, money-saving health insurance, regardless of immigration status.
NYLPI stands with the BPHA Caucus in calling on New York to prioritize building a just society accessible to every individual, regardless of race, socioeconomic status or disability.
