Fair Housing

Community Justice, Disability Justice, Fair Housing, Immigrant Justice

New York City is in an affordable housing crisis due in part to rapid gentrification, and the development boom has been matched by increased tenant harassment, discrimination, and displacement.

People with disabilities are at particular risk, and because of isolation and physical and communication barriers, as well as frequent language barriers, they are often not able to defend their legal rights.

NYLPI advocates for fair housing for people with disabilities through aggressive enforcement of city, state, and federal fair housing and anti-discrimination laws. We ensure that landlords provide accessible housing and reasonable accommodations/modifications — including wheelchair ramps, grab bars, and apartment transfers — to people with disabilities.  We also represent clients who are denied apartments and lease renewals because of their disabilities.
