Senior Staff Attorney Christopher Schuyler, along with Laura Barbieri at Advocates for Justice, NYLPI’s co-counsel in Lawton v. Success Academy Fort Greene, recently presented a CLE, hosted by Practising Law Institute. In a matter of first impression for courts within the Second Circuit, Judge Frederic Block for the Eastern District of New York recently ruled in Lawton that expert witness fees are recoverable under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. During the CLE, the presenters probed the arguments made by Plaintiffs’ counsel and discussed the impact of the decision for civil rights attorneys going forward.
