William Juhn, senior staff attorney, Disability Justice at NYLPI, and William Eck, Stanford Public Interest Legal Fellow, NYLPI, visited Albany for a legislative advocacy day on January 17, 2024.

The two NYLPI Disability Justice staff members joined legislators, mental health advocates and families of people impacted by police violence to rally for the passage of Daniel’s Law, which aims to replace police as first responders when a person is experiencing a mental health crisis, and instead connect them with trained health professionals. Juhn and Eck also spoke with legislators to request their co-sponsorship of the Daniel’s Law bill.

NYLPI is a member of the Daniel’s Law Coalition, which aims for immediate passage of Daniel’s Law and coordinated the January 17 events alongside the Treatment Not Jail campaign.
