In Solidarity with the Victims of the Atlanta Shooting and All Members of the Asian and Asian American Communities
March 18, 2021Community Justice, Immigrant Justice, News
We condemn the tragic trend of violence and bias attacks towards Asian and Asian Americans members of our community, which has been especially harmful for women. As a civil rights organization deeply rooted in the fight for social justice, we believe that any threat to any one of our community members threatens the very fabric of our society. These attacks are intolerable and we must all take proactive steps to address racism in all of its manifestations.
We join the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities as they fight discrimination and hate, particularly as a result of racist narratives surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. We pledge to combat bias in every community and to be beacons of peace during these challenging times. No one should have to live in fear. Let us use our voices and work together to foster a safe and healthy community for all.
In addition to the list of resources and next steps we shared in a statement earlier this month, we suggest the following from Asian-led and AAPI-led organizations and the NYC Commission on Human Rights for further educational resources and action items.
