Melissa Iachán and Mia Soto Featured in Community and Movement Lawyering Panel for UK Lawyers and Leaders

Senior Supervising Counsel Melissa Iachán and Community Organizer Mia Soto were featured speakers on a panel designed to introduce community and movement lawyering to attorneys, service providers, and community leaders in the United Kingdom on March 2. Mia discussed the important role of community organizers and organizing in effective advocacy campaigns, and the challenges associated with working with lawyers. Melissa highlighted the differences in practice between traditional lawyering and attorney-client relationships and the demands and practices of community and movement lawyering. Melissa and Mia were joined by esteemed peers Yaritza Mendez, Associate Director of Organizing at Make the Road, and Andrew Friedman, who founded Make the Road and now serves as Co-Executive Director for the Center for Popular Democracy.
