New Medical and Healthcare Rights Calendar for People Detained in Immigration Detention Centers and JailsJune 17, 2021
Every day people in the U.S. immigration detention system experience health and human rights violations, including inadequate medical care. NYLPI has published two reports documenting the serious, often life-threatening deficiencies in the medical care provided to New Yorkers in area immigration detention facilities. NYLPI has brought successful federal civil rights cases and established legal precedent on behalf of people whose rights were violated while they were detained, and we operate a volunteer medical network that connects people in immigration detention with doctors who can advocate for them to receive necessary healthcare or to be released. The new resource is a practical tool to advance our work to combat the human rights crisis in immigration detention, with a goal of helping individuals and advocates understand legal rights and document health care needs and rights violations, in real time.
