"The voters have spoken: Access to clean air and water should not be determined by someone’s zip code. Prop 2 is a win and an additional legal tool for historically overburdened environmental justice communities fighting to breathe easier." Jenny Veloz, Community Organizer

This week, New Yorkers demonstrated a commitment to environmental justice by overwhelmingly voting YES on Prop. 2, also referred to as the “Green Amendment.” This amendment to the New York Constitution’s Bill of Rights guarantees every person the right to clean air, clean water, and a healthful environment.

Jenny Veloz, Community Organizer for NYLPI’s Environmental Justice program, states:

“The voters have spoken: Access to clean air and water should not be determined by someone’s zip code. Prop 2 is a win and an additional legal tool for historically overburdened environmental justice communities fighting to breathe easier.”

Prop. 2 aligns with NYLPI’s work in Environmental Justice and addresses the ways in which environmental disparities intersect with health and racial justice.
