NYLPI, the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Advocates for Children of New York, and the New York Legal Assistance Group filed an amicus brief in support of families appealing for appropriate reimbursement of attorney’s fees by the New York City Department of Education (DOE) for special education cases now that are currently being appealed from the federal court for the Southern District of New York to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. The amicus brief, which was authored by Ellen Saideman, the first director of NYLPI’s Disability Justice program, affirms that these families are entitled to appropriate reimbursement of attorney’s fees under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
