NYLPI filed extensive comments with the PEAK Coalition, Chhaya CDC, Earthjustice, and the Sierra Club strongly skewering NRG’s proposal to build a new fossil fuel-burning power plant in Astoria, Queens.

This project would not comply with New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), is unnecessary for electricity reliability given approved advances in transmission and renewable energy projects, and would further burden Queens and South Bronx communities suffering from high levels of pollution and respiratory disease.

We urge the Department of Environmental Conservation to reject this application and to accelerate the implementation of 100% renewable energy and storage solutions for New York City.
