Peaker Plants against a night sky.

New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, alongside PEAK Coalition partners Clean Energy Group, NYC Environmental Justice Alliance, The POINT CDC and UPROSE, has co-authored a new report, “Accelerate Now! The Fossil Fuel End Game 2.0.

From Clean Energy Group’s website: New York City has the densest concentration of urban power plants in the US, impacting the health of 750,000 New Yorkers, and producing some of the country’s most expensive electricity.

The PEAK Coalition—UPROSE, THE POINT CDC, New York City Environmental Justice Alliance (NYC-EJA), New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI), and Clean Energy Group (CEG)—aims to end long-standing pollution from fossil fuel peaker power plants and the negative effects on New York City’s most climate-vulnerable people.

A follow-up to the PEAK Coalition’s 2021 report, “Accelerate Now!” serves as a progress report and in-depth analysis of how far we’ve come and how far we have to go when it comes to retiring all of NYC’s peakers.

Megan Carr, Skadden Fellow – Environmental Justice at NYLPI, will join PEAK Coalition members for a webinar hosted by Clean Energy Group, “Replacing NYC’s Peaker Plants with Clean Alternatives: Progress, Barriers, and Pathways Forward,” on February 6.
