EVENT RECAP: NYLPI Attended the Fair Play Coalition’s Fair Play Field Day
February 24, 2023Community Justice, Environmental Justice, L.P. v. NYC Dept of Education, News, Sports Equity
Niki Cross, staff attorney, offered a great recap:
“We explained issues regarding sports equity in NYC public schools, made connections for future advocacy, and got to know each other through basketball, soccer, four-square, chess, and volleyball. Youth Advocacy Corps took big leadership roles and ran the crafts + media making table, the self-care station, DJing, and made sure everyone was included and having a good time. Leaders from Teens Take Charge also helped facilitate games. The Door was critically helpful in hosting us and we’re grateful that their Youth Council members joined in the activities. We generated a lot of enthusiasm for sports equity advocacy and expanded our network of youth advocates.”
Sonya Chung, staff attorney, shared resources about sports equity and know-your-rights information.
