NYLPI Co-Hosts Zero-Waste Press Conference

April 22, 2021

Environmental Justice, News, Waste Equity

Transform Don’t Trash NYC, Climate Works for All, and Save Our Compost NYC hosted a Zero-Waste Press Conference with Council Member Antonio Reynoso on April 21 discussing environmental justice, climate and environmental inequities, incineration, composting, recycling, reusables, and more. Attendees came together to collectively demand that the Mayor and Department of Sanitation commit to taking immediate action to meet our goal of sending zero-waste to landfills and incinerators by 2030. Currently, New York City recycle or composts only about 18% of its massive waste stream.

Among those in attendance were numerous other council members, former Sanitation Commissioner Katherine Garcia, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, and a number of zero-waste champions from the New York City Environmental Justice Alliance, BK ROT, Cafeteria Culture, Ironbound Community Corporation, ALIGN NY, and the New York League of Conservation Voters.
