NYLPI has released a statement in response to New York’s Climate Action Council and Climate Justice Working Group (CJWG)’s drafted Disadvantaged Communities Criteria. The Disadvantaged Communities Criteria is a metric in development to assist in determining which communities funding opportunities under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) should be designated to meet climate goals while combating environmental racism. NYLPI expresses concerns regarding transparency of data and methodology in the criteria as drafted and that the Disadvantaged Communities Criteria should be amended to address concerns of accessibility, justice, and transparency.
