Doctors from NYLPI’s Medical Providers Network and NYLPI Legal Director Hayley Gorenberg testified at a joint hearing of the City Council’s Immigration and Hospitals committees on February 28, 2020, after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents tasered a man multiple times and shot his partner’s son in the face. Medical records indicated the tasering was severe enough to trigger rhabdomyolysis, a condition where muscles break down and release protein into the blood, which can lead to kidney damage and death.
