Dear Mr. Davey:

On October 17, 2022, the Department of Justice (DOJ) wrote the MTA about major shortcomings in Access-A-Ride, which reflects the experience of Access-A-Ride riders we work with. (See attached letter.) Since then, we have heard nothing about it from anyone at the MTA. The MTA has not acknowledged the letter publicly or otherwise responded as far as we know (except for Mr. Lieber saying at his press conference yesterday that the DOJ’s data was old news, though the problems cited by the DOJ are quite familiar to AAR riders today).

Our groups, which represent Access-A-Ride riders across New York City, write to ask: What are the MTA and Access-A-Ride doing in response to the DOJ letter to rectify the problems that we know about and the DOJ letter described? We would appreciate a reply by February 15, 2023.

If we are to work together, we need answers to those questions. That starts with real transparency and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Jean Ryan
