Here's a description: Advocates, members of the public, and journalists will join Human Rights Watch on December 14, 2023, for a panel discussion of the shortcomings of the Adams administration’s punitive approach to the city’s mental health crisis. The panel will discuss how New York can adopt alternative solutions that don’t involve police or coercion and that could benefit all residents regardless of housing or disability status. The panel will feature Evelyn Graham-Nyaasi, advocacy specialist at Community Access’ Ruth Lowenkron, director of disability justice at the New York Lawyers for the Public Interest; and Carlos Ríos-Espinosa, associate disability rights director at Human Rights Watch. Eric Umansky of ProPublica will be the moderator. The program will be held from 12 PM to 2 PM at the CUNY Graduate Center, Skylight Room (9100), 365 5th Avenue New York, New York 10016

This event Human Rights Watch event marks one year since Mayor Eric Adams empowered police and service providers to remove those perceived to have mental health conditions from public spaces.
