WNYC Public Safety correspondent Matt Katz spoke with Brian Lehrer for The Brian Lehrer Show podcast about Mayor Eric Adams’ proposal to invest more funds into New York City’s Behavioral Health Emergency Assistance Response Division (B-HEARD) program. The two discuss B-HEARD’s efficacy, as well as criticisms against the program and its failure to fully remove police from mental health crisis response. NYLPI is a steering member of the Correct Crisis Intervention Today-NYC (CCIT-NYC) coalition which proposes an alternative to B-HEARD led by healthcare professionals.
