NYLPI joins Senator Samra Brouk, lead sponsor of Daniel’s Law — a bill to transform New York’s response to mental health crises– in calling for funding of the Daniel’s Law pilot program. Brouk was featured in a Times Union story about the pilot.
“This is really the moment… In no other medical emergency do we expect people to communicate with someone with a gun” – Senator Samra Brouk.
NYLPI and Brouk advocate for $10 million to be set aside for the pilot program in the New York State budget, which has not yet been finalized. Daniel’s Law would help local governments to develop preventative and rehabilitative crisis response services that eliminate police and substitute emergency health care technicians and peers (those with lived mental health experience.)
